Quilts Of Valor
"Welcome to the Quilts of Valor Foundation
The mission of the QOV Foundation is to cover ALL those service- members and veterans touched by war with Wartime Quilts called Quilts of Valor (QOVs). This foundation is not about politics. It's about people."
That is the first thing you read on the Quilts of Valor webpage (www.qovf.org). The foundation is encouraging all Americans to serve their nation and for quilters, its to make a quilt.
If you are a quilter, you can:
1) Join in the Just One Star campaign. Make one star quilt square by May 1, 2011. Their goal is to make 100 quilts in 100 days from donated blocks. For information and the star block pattern, click here.
2) Make a patriotic quilt. Be sure to check the website, www.qovf.org, for specifics on sizes, fabrics, labeling, packaging, etc. (See more below.)
3) Become a Coach (experienced quilter) for a Rookie (new quilter) and make a quilt together.
Nine national fabric companies have joined in and created lines of fabric for these quilts. Quilts & Treasures has not purchased all of the fabrics from all of the lines, but we have gotten in a good selection. Each fabric company has also designed a quilt using their lines of fabric and are distributing the quilt patterns free of charge. We have gone to each fabric companies website and found their patterns to include here:
Andover Fabrics Clothworks Marcus Brothers Fabrics Moda Fabrics
P & B Textiles Quilting Treasures Red Rooster Timeless Treasures
Windham Fabrics Windham Fabrics
At the moment, Clothworks pattern is not available and Windham Fabrics had two patterns!!!
We will be planning a workshop day in May for Coaches and Rookies to get together.
